I know I won’t get any sympathy but I’m going to say it – my two month holiday is over:( So to finish the holidays in style, I spent my last day off enjoying some fashion and beauty.
First up, Fashion Week Launch (more about that later…), then off to the relaunch of the Beauty Hall at Debenhams in Foyleside.
I am a bit of a stickler for the same products – I spent so long buying brands on offer when doing my weekly shop, but since sorting out my beauty regime and actually spending money on products, I now find it hard to divert from what I like! I love getting pushed into trying something new – it’s laziness I stick, and a lack of knowledge.
The first thing I noticed on entering the new beauty hall was the space – not only was the floor so open, but the counters are laid out in a way to make it easy to wander and find something new. The lighting was also perfect for a beauty department – I hate coming away after testing products and feeling caked!
But also, and very importantly for me, the staff were more than happy to help with the most basic of questions – and my questions are generally pretty basic! They were full of knowledge about not only the history behind the brand but the development of the products and therefore what best suited me – at this point I am sucked in and ready to buy!
We got to spend a bit of time with the girls at the Benefit Counter…
We were shown how to create the perfect Benefit Brow – I currently use Brow Zings along with a powder but now plan to purchase Gimme Brow for a perfect finish! We were also shown Air Patrol, a new product offering sticking power for eye shadow along with hydration for your lid and protection against the sun and pollutants. This was part of our fantastic goodie bag so I’ll let you know how I get on! We also got a tour of the new treatment room which offers a waxing service – shop and beautify all in one go!
The Urban Decay Counter…
On our approach to the counter a slash of colour from the Naked Flushed palette decorated our arms and to that the girls sprayed the All Nighter Make-up Setting Spray which stuck the make-up in place! Perfect for a night out, I’d like to test it after a bit of dancing;) We were then given a demonstration of what is offered to customers whether you are going for a night out or you need some help with application. Some of the services offered are complimentary and some come at a price.
And the Clinique Counter…
The Clinique girls were showing off the Sonic Cleansing Brush which transformed the feel of your skin, my hand just drank the moisturiser added! But most of all I loved Clinique Take the Day Off Balm, a lightweight cleansing balm and make-up remover that changes from a solid balm to a silky oil when applied. This I plan to buy with the very generous voucher given by the Debenhams team!
And then a little treat from Clarins and for Debenhams…
The only problem now, is that this space is a little further away and cannot be visited by me on a regular basis. But on a plus point, I have already planned a visit to Derry/Londonderry for a whole day of shopping – I may add in some waxing to the shopping and hopefully get my make-up applied for dinner before our journey home! If you live a little closer – take advantage! This is an amazing space and with the help and advice given, anyone (even me!!) could become a make-up pro!
Thanks to the team at Debenhams and Sasha and Vicki at ASG for organising such a fantastic and very generous evening:)
I am becoming a little obsessed with my skin. I mentioned before that I have recently noticed a change in my skin – there are a number of attributing factors – illness, age, lack of exercise, change of season – but whatever the reasons, my skin needs some TLC!
I was sent a travel pack of eléni skincare to try out – just the treatment I needed! Originally created In South Africa by Piet Meyer, this skincare collection is designed to target a variety of issues including anti-ageing, hydration and problem skin. Using liposomal technology and including natural ingredients, the products can be used individually or in combination with one another.
So what are the products and what did I think?
I used the products at night, starting with the Facial Deep Cleanse. It has a light, foam like texture but as soon as you begin to rub it in, the texture changes, leaving you fresh faced!
Following your cleanse, apply eléni Reconstructive Serum. With an aim to stimulate collagen and other essential proteins, this product, which is suitable for all skin types, is light to the touch and leaves skin looking immediately smoother.
And then my favourite, a product I have been searching for, trialling many and feeling happy with none. The eléni Eye Contour Smoothing Crème. I have been trying to watch for a transformation (apparently this will be obvious after 2 weeks of application), and this is the point I wish I had taken the before and after pictures! But what I will say, is how hydrated my eyes look and feel. I will definitely be ordering more of this!
The aim of BlemishLess Cream is to quickly target the problem, reduce inflammation and prompt healthy skin growth. After rarely having a spot in my teenage years, the last few years, my skin has broken out, mainly on my back. I had the feeling of a spot, perfectly placed on my bra line. I applied the cream and literally could not feel the usual throb within about 10 minutes. I love the clove smell of this product – it smells like its working wonders!
And finally, Mild Stabilising Moisturiser (there is also the option of Rich Stabilising Moisturiser for particularly dry skin). Again, offering hydration and nourishment, the gentle formula ensures I awake each morning with a soft, smooth complexion, what more could a girl ask for!
A quick round-up…I love the travel pack idea – I am definitely a girl who needs to be presented with a full routine to follow though with it each day. But if you are ready to try out a new product, I would definitely recommend the Eye Contour Smoothing Crème and BlemishLess Crème. Head on over to eléni on Facebook to check out their stockists and buy your skin an early Christmas pressie!
Naturally after a change in weather, an illness, a change in diet – skin changes. I have noticed a considerable change in my body since my ‘sofa time’ recovering from illness, but the positive to this…finally, rather than prioritising money on that new top or pair of shoes, my attentions are diverted to looking after my skin.
La Roche-Posay was the perfect skincare brand for me to try out. Recommended by over 25000 dermatologists worldwide, this is a brand targeting mainly sensitive skin, however it also provides solutions to a range of skin concerns such as acne and anti-ageing. The products contain a minimal number of ingredients to reduce reactivity with one of the ingredients being thermal spa water straight from the La Roche-Posay town in France – I love that!
I don’t have particularly sensitive skin, however, I’m sure like everyone, it is forever changing, as then is my need for products. One issue that I have had since I was a teenager, is itchy skin. My own conclusion is that a change in temperature triggers it, but regardless of the reason for it’s existence, it drives me mad!! You may have felt it before, a dull itch beneath the skin, mainly on arms and legs, an itch that cannot be scratched, an itch that makes me so irritable, an itch that slowly leaves as and when it is ready (normally lasting around half an hour). One application of La Roche-Posay Replenishing Body Balm Anti-Irritation did exactly what it said on the tin – ‘Soothes immediately’! Ah! I have also been using this product on my hands which also succumb to the changes in weather and am seeing pleasing results. Actually I have happily been testing lots of these products on my face and body!
Other products in their line include Hydraphase, Lipikar, Cicaplast and Sun Protection products, with a range of benefits in cleansing, hydration and repair. After being so lazy for so long, I am now ready to begin my beauty recovery with a product I feel can only produce positive changes.
Pick up the product most suited to your needs from Gordons Chemists in Northern Ireland or check them out online.
Okay, I admit it. I would much rather buy my moisturiser from the supermarket, my shampoo on 3 for 2 and my make-up using my Boots points and then spend any well earned pennies on updating my wardrobe. Hence the reason I have a little basket of make-up, and a (few) bulging wardrobes!
But there is one beauty pleasure I love, and I am more than happy to give up a new top for. I love false eyelashes.
Many years ago I bought a fab set of strip lashes. Each time I was heading out, I got my make-up on and set about sticking on my lashes. After a few attempts and a new face of make-up, I had given up on my long lash look. I have tried many mascaras claiming they create the same look as false eyelashes, but I haven’t found one to prove their claim. Or maybe I’m just fussy?
Over a year ago I discovered a little treasure on the Lisburn Road in Belfast (apologies to any readers elsewhere but this is a tip on where to get your lashes done if you ever visit Northern Ireland!) – The Lash Lounge ‘Eyelash Boutique’.
Normally if I have an occasion, or actually any excuse, I book my appointment to see Niamh or Katie. The girls are great at squeezing you in to an appointment that suits you. While lying back in the chair, looking at the inspirational wall art in their upbeat boutique, lashes are put on while your eyes are open. If you have never had false lashes before you may not know about the liedown option, the one where your eyes sting before you see the flutter of lashes. No pain at The Lash Lounge!
Depending on your occasion, you may choose different options – Lash in a Flash, Fabulash, Party Lashes or Siberian Mink. You can also add a little sparkle or create the full effect by adding lower lashes. I normally opt for the Fabulash option.
On my first visit, Niamh checked out my lashes and decided upon their length and suitable thickness. It takes about 50 minutes for the individual lashes to be put on, time easily spent with the chat from the girls! I also love that the original price (£40) includes removal as well – no damaged lashes here;) Depending on wear, your lashes will last about 2 weeks (sometimes more!) and you can go for a top-up to keep them for a little longer. And here is the result…
When planning for a recent event, I decided to try out the Party Lashes. It took about 15 minutes to get these on. They are put on in little sets and with a glue that is not as adhesive. They also take a little longer to dry and will last you up to five days. But they look just as good! As they fell out, I topped the remaining lashes up with mascara to maintain the look.
So prepare yourself for the party season and flutter those lashes – the girls also offer an eyebrow service and have a loyalty card, plenty of reasons to enjoy a little treat;)
A few tips for keeping perfect lashes
- Shower first – steam is not good for long lasting lashes straight after their application
- Get your lashes the day before going out so they are well set before putting full eye make-up on
- Don’t rub your eyes!
- Use oil free make-up remover
- Flutter them plenty and look fabulous!
To book, call 028 9066 1530 or message Niamh through Facebook
When looking at my finger nails, you would never know that when it comes to nails, I need perfection. My nails are very short, my hands are very dry and the skin around my nails is a disaster! Drawing attention to my nails has never been a priority. But if I have polish on, I don’t want any chips!
When I was introduced to Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat, my nail chip issue disappeared! Once you have applied your regular polish, you wait for two minutes and apply one coat of this product. In just 30 seconds your nails are dry and you get a ‘high gloss superior shine’ with a manicure that lasts ‘up to 10 days’ (I would say 5-7). Perfect!
This opened a whole new beauty door for me. And now you can see my summer nail colour choices.
I’ve always loved OPI polish ‘Need Sunglasses’
