Yesterday I headed to a local event in Castlecourt Shopping Centre, Belfast. It was entitled ‘Recycle your Style’ and aimed to provide shoppers with some tips from the centre’s Personal Shoppers in light of Recycle Week 2013.
With this in mind, as I dressed I was thinking which garments best suited the event. My upcycled bicycle t-shirt hadn’t been on since it’s completion so I worked my outfit around this. Add my neon jacket bought second hand from a stall at The Fashion Souk, an easy outfit updater! I have been wearing the same things on my bottom half for the last few weekends (boyfriend jeans, midi skirt, monochrome stripe trousers) so I wanted something different. Back to my much loved items worn often in the winter – an ASOS quilted leather skirt and wetlook leggings. The decision to wear the leather and wetlook together was not immediate, in fact I’m still not sure how well the mixed textures worked, but bare legs/tights/cotton leggings/wetlook leggings without a top covering my bottom were not included in the options! And of course my best recent buy, my Lee Cooper trainers.
I did my usual trawl of side streets for a sneaky carpark space, which ended up giving me a little walk to the event. As the rain had dispersed and the appropriate footwear was on, this didn’t bother me at all! A little browse in a few stores to pick up end of term pressies and of course, after my recent post, ‘A pair of silver shoes‘, a trip into Aldo to try on the shoes I WANT!!
I have been trying so hard not to buy anything new this month and have found this a real challenge. Aldo offering 20% off when you buy two pairs, or 30% off when you buy three did not help this aim. But I resisted. I may regret this.
But how could I buy anything new, on a day I was being given tips on recycling my style. So on I continued to the event, with no further diversions! In prime location, at the front of the mall, The Personal Stylists and Urban Decay girls were on hand to give tips on how to transform an outfit from day to night, just by making a few changes.
I am quite good at making an outfit work for different occasions or the weather, however make-up is another story – I’m an all or nothing girl! My day to day routine is minimal – bronzer, blusher and mascara and I love dramatic eyes at night time (thanks to a friend for many make-up lessons!!). But I did love a product they demonstrated and will definitely be buying this! ‘Naked Flushed’ is a bronzer, highlighter and blush in one compact. You can use each part individually or blended together – perfect to throw in your handbag for a quick refresh during the day or a brighten on a night out!
So again, the challenge seems to be hunting through your wardrobe – what can you do with what you’ve already got? Meanwhile, I’m thinking of all the things I could be wearing with my new silver shoes from Aldo;)
Inspired by news and photographs from Royal Ascot, and with the Summer Festival of Racing at the Down Royal this weekend, I thought I might head over to Coast, a store first on the list to check out as soon as a formal occasion is in the diary.
Now don’t be misled – this morning I awoke to another day of 6 year olds, and this weekend you will find me chasing a child on a bicycle, however you know I love to browse, so here are my options! Of course, the weather will be a perfect summery day, so as I was planning my prospective outfit, sun was on my mind!
Love the shape and the detail at the top of this dress. Length just above the knee.
Described as ‘..softly structured..jacquard textured..’
Delicate piping detail on neck and armholes.
Love the colour, cutout detailing and embellished neckline.
Love the chiffon and frills!

And to add a touch of elegance and glamour I have chosen my favourite pieces of millinery from two local designers – Gráinne Maher (also of Pluck and Devour fame and my favourite Ampersand bracelet) and Helen Palmer from Milk & Honey Boutique. As I got carried away picking my favourite, I haven’t pieced the outfits together. But how beautiful are these creations…
So what do you do – buy a dress to match your millinery, or your millinery to match your dress?
I recently attended a fashion show held in aid of the charity ‘Freedom Project, Ireland’, a charity established in response to the growing problem of Human Trafficking. It shocked me to hear that human trafficking is happening in my own country, and is growing at an alarming rate. This crime against humanity involves ‘recruiting, transporting, harbouring or receiving a person through a use of force and coercion, solely for the purpose of exploiting them’.
Becki Hodge from Freedom Project, Ireland hosted the event, and Menarys and Tempest supported it by providing clothes for the fashion show. There was also a tempting auction to raise funds.
Here are some of the items showcased on the night and on sale in Menarys and Tempest to buy now.

On Friday I went to a special bloggers day at the L.K. Bennett pop-up store at The OUTLET, Banbridge (Event Number Two!). Here I am with some other local bloggers.
The Real Elle Woods, Willow Lane NI, Niamh Kelly, School Gate Style, That Belfast Girl
The store was huge and temptations hung from wall to wall!
And this is what I came home with…

Friday night was an Accessories Swap at a friends house.
I tend to wear the same rotation of accessories so I had to dig deep to see what I was prepared to swap. Of course I found a few items I forgot I had, but I managed to part with a few pieces. And this is what I got in return.
Next up, The Style Fair in Holywood. This event was running in this location for the first time, with a view to opening on a more regular basis. The venue was lovely and the stall holders had lots of treasures, the stalls were overflowing!
This is what I wore…
I went with only a little cash in my wallet on purpose, but of course, I can’t miss a bargain…
Soaked in Luxury Chanel inspired Cardigan – £18 ASOS clutch £3
The rest of the weekend was mummy time, the next week will be a busy one at a desk!
Over the last week or two I’ve had a few e-mails inviting bloggers to local events to enjoy the fashion on offer.
The first event takes place in Victoria Square on Thursday night. CRUISE, ‘..one of the UK’s leading independent luxury retailers, with a reputation for iconic international designer collections, directional street led fashion and premium denim brands’, is celebrating the reopening of its recently renovated premises with a Summer Style Party.
From the sound of live music from local singer Jason Clarke and DJ Jay Kay, to the refreshing Smirnoff Mojito Cocktails or chilled Peroni, to the taste of canapes from Wagamama – this is not just any ordinary fashion show! This store carries premium designers such as Alexander McQueen, Matthew Williamson, Dolce & Gabbana and Vivenne Westwood to name a few, and mainline brands including Barbour, Paul Smith and Forever Unique. Models will showcase the spring/summer collections.
I was excited to read about the new layout of the store – with clearly defined menswear and ladieswear areas, allowing for a larger floor area for ladies footwear, accessories and handbags. There will also be an opportunity to browse the new store design following the fashion show and CRUISE store manager Judi Graham is confident, ‘As always our staff will be on hand delivering that personalised level of service, renowned throughout our stores.’
So I’ll maybe just dust off the credit card, and do a little browsing, before my next event on Friday…watch out for part two!
