30 Day Wardrobe Challenge

I happened to ‘stumble upon’ Who What Wear, okay, not quite stumble upon, as this site dominates my personal Facebook page, but this post really took my interest – The 30 Day Wardrobe Challenge.  A challenge is my favourite thing!

The 30 days have officially started, but it’s never too late to join, so let’s see what this challenge involves.  First up, here’s the link for anyone who wants to get involved in an official wardrobe raid.  There is a new challenge for each day, from swapping your heels for a pair or trainers, to testing out a new tuck.  It just gives you that opportunity to (as I always love to say) experiment with your own clothes.

A few I have completed without even realising –

  • wear a bright coloured combo
  • mix at least two textures into your look
  • wear a hat
  • winterize your favourite skirt
  • wear denim on denim

Now to a few easy ones I plan to try –

  • a boyish look
  • mix two or more prints
  • dress up distressed denim
  • try an office blouse on the weekend

To the ones I will find more difficult –

  • ‘Go big or go home’ and try out the oversized trend (I can’t work this one out for my body shape)
  • wear the item you have been saving (the labels are off before I’ve even left the shop, this never happens!!)
  • mix high and low end (I need to own some high end first!)
  • belt your outerwear (not a fan of belts on show)

But what a fun way to explore your wardrobe – mix it up if you would prefer, or do the opposite if you already follow a rule!

The Charity Challenge

If you are a frequent reader here at silverbrogues, you will know I love a few things in the world of fashion.  I love quirky – things that are wearable, but a little different.  I love local – it is so important to support local talent.  I love styling – I could spend hours looking at pictures in magazines and online, and mixing and matching; trying new out outfit combinations.  I love a good bargain.  And I say ‘love’ a lot!!

I was recently set a challenge by Cathy Martin at CMPR, the very busy lady in charge of the hardworking team behind Belfast FASHIONWEEK.  After spending many years in the audience, last year I worked behind the scenes at FASHIONWEEK (you can read a little about it here).  This year, I intend to go back behind the scenes (more details will follow on this year’s shows), but I will also be part of the catwalk collections too.  I’m beyond excited!

I have teamed up with Cancer Research (thanks to Avril at School Gate Style for the referral!) to style ten outfits selected from their charity stores, ready for your Spring/Summer wardrobe.  After the show, the outfits shown on the catwalk will be available to buy in the charity’s pop-up store.

This is way out of my comfort zone – I love personal styling but when I completed my styling course, this was the part I found most challenging.  I know what clothes suit different people, I can work with your wardrobe to help you feel good about your clothes and yourself, I’ll encourage you to take a chance and try something new, but when it comes to focusing on trends to create a look, I run away a little scared – but then I come back with my take on it;)

So what is my take?? Well, for that you will have to wait and see, but it is not just about mix and matching clothes to make an outfit, it’s about making your wardrobe wearable, making it style that works for you!

But for now, I’m off to empty the bags of goodies I have gathered, wait and see what happens…!

All I Want For Christmas…

Is actually some time. This month has been busier than I ever remember and I feel less organised, how can it be?!

So instead of adding to the mayhem, I’m going to save up all those post ideas that have been making their way to my notepad rather than my computer, wish you all a Merry Christmas, and sign off for a few days!

Bring on the New Season!

A/W has never been a favourite of mine.  Layers are essential, but as a hot blooded female, I am not a fan of layers!  I want to wear the sandals, the tops with no jumper, the brooch on the jacket instead of the scarf covering the whole look, the fresh colours!

I saw these photos from The Outlet recently, and found the perfect alternative – wear a touch of S/S in A/W!  And when you are supposed to be shopping for others at this time of year, if you pick up a bargain for yourself, it never feels so bad!
