Prints might be a big trend this season, but I’m fighting with them! After a quick hunt in my wardrobe, I can see I am happy to wear block colour, but any print is pretty much a combination of two colours and either polka dots or stripes, ah, the variety!!
So after my many weeks of browsing magazines on the sofa, the prints were coming at me. This is what I saw and loved.
Firstly, the subtle addition…
Add a mix of embellishment to your prints…
And Valentino manages to do it best, just a four figure price tag…
And this is how I have added print to my wardrobe…
A little snapshot from a New Look haul – I haven’t yet decided what to keep, if anything? Keep an eye on my Instagram to find out:)
And the tips – so this is tricky, because usually if it’s a trend you want to try out, but you are not sure you will love, I say, buy cheap! However, I also advise, when choosing prints, pay a little more so you don’t see everyone else on the high street wearing the same thing. So what to do – buy the perfect print for your wardrobe – at least if everyone else has the same print, you can guarantee you are wearing it the best way!
I was recently asked how much I spend a month on clothes. I’m turning the question around – ‘How much do you spend a month on clothes?’. Can you answer that, because I found it really hard!
I used to spend a lot of time in a variety of clothes stores, practically arranging my weekend around my shopping. Now time doesn’t really allow for it, pushing me towards online browsing a little more. Which is great, because I generally just browse, I rarely cave!
Also since beginning this blog, I have nearly felt obliged to follow my own advice (yes it always looks good when I write it down but I actually need to follow through now!), so I have been styling what I already have in my wardrobe. As you have seen, this has encouraged a few clearouts, and it has also reduced my need for shopping. One thing I do find really useful is The List, although admittedly this takes the pleasure out of that spontaneous shop!
I also love a good bargain and am especially excited when buying something with a money off voucher! As for getting a gift voucher – the most fun way to spend money altogether (not a hint at all for my friends and family this Christmas!)!
I’ll start with a small budget, I think I need these…
If you follow on Facebook or Twitter you will have already seen this but this needs to be shown again!
I think I may have blown my original budget, it’s well I’m only browsing!
Ok, so just imagine…it’s Sunday, the sun is shining and the players are warming up behind the scenes. I have the perfect position on Centre Court to see all the action, maybe even catch the winner’s sweat band at the end of the game.
But what am I wearing…?
Leo Stripe Lantern Dress – Oasis £40
Leafy Flower Garland Headband – New Look £4.99
Rupert Sanderson Leather Cross-Body Bag – Selfridges £995
Cospel Patent Peep Toe Wedge Court Shoe – Dune £39
So, imagine…it’s Sunday, you are on Centre Court…What are you wearing??
My favourite casual look has to be a printed t-shirt with jeans – relaxed, comfortable and with a bit of quirky style. Below are a few of my favourites of the moment.
Coral Bird Print Cropped T-shirt – River Island £10 (was £15)
Dreaming Hearts T-shirt – http://www.zazzle.co.uk £20.95
Love Moschino Zip Smiley Short Sleeved T-shirt – http://www.asos.co.uk £65 (was £110)
Hummingbird T-shirt – Warehouse £26
I love the cropped t-shirt in the first picture – a style I wouldn’t normally wear but what a cute print! You can also get a white standard length t-shirt with the same print, sold in support of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. Also love the Moschino t-shirt with sequin, zip and bow detailing – thinking I could do a bit of this myself??
I used to love the tie dye look in the 80’s but they do say if you wore it the first time…! This t-shirt gives a more updated look with the colour splatter. For any Made in Chelsea fans out there, the Floral Cross Tank has been designed by Oliver Proudlock – there is a great range online but this was my favourite. This Freedom t-shirt should be in the ‘If I were to buy one thing‘ post. Zoe Boomer is a Northern Irish designer who creates elegant, modern designs and I only recently realised this top is actually made from silk. I can just imagine how beautiful it would sit with my favourite skinny jeans, a little pair of sandals – luxurious and simple!
Vila Studded Sweat Top – ASOS £24.50 (was £35)
Boyfriend shirt in Cosmic Tie Dye Print – ASOS £36
Brogues T-shirt – http://www.notonthehighstreet.com £17
Number Airtex Tee – Topshop £22
A little off the t-shirt trail with the top two offerings – an embellished jumper is a wardrobe essential and another tie dye, maybe I’m falling in love all over again! And how could I not add a brogues picture – this is sold as a men’s t-shirt, but with rolled sleeves, a belt or tying at the bottom, it could easily be worn by girls too. My final offering is in keeping with the current sports luxe trend, again, probably not something I would wear but I like the simplicity of this tee.
So clearly I like a printed tee with all my ‘loves’ – which style do you love??
My real job has been a bit busy recently (no end of term calm down unfortunately!) so my last post (A White T-Shirt), and this post had to be an easy write for me – my favourite wardrobe staples!
And tonight, it’s the silver pump. I love silver. It’s a colour that goes with everything and is most flattering to my skin tone and most of the colours I wear. And doesn’t every girl love sparkles?!
Any regular readers will know I already own my favourite pair..
Next Embellished Ballerinas £26
*also available in black or nude
Of course, my Silver Brogues are also a firm favourite, but they are not always easy to match up with an outfit, especially in summer, as having thick glitter and a black sole, they are a little heavy.
Matalan Brogues – inspiration for silverbrogues!
I also own about 5 other pairs from various shops and in various styles (round toe, pointy toe, sling back, elastic detailing etc.), as seen in previous outfit posts.
For the wear my silver shoes get, I’m definitely in need of a new pair. So here are the choices…
Zara Patent Blucher £49.99
Dune Lustrous £79
Sam Edelman Jerome
Thanks Joanna for your brogue tips!
Carvela Linden @ Kurt Geiger £85 to £29
Aldo Bozena Metal Toe £45
Dune Metallic Pointed Toe cap Ballerina £21
Mel by Melissa Silver Cut Out Mango Pumps – New Look £28.99
Warehouse Martina Jewelled Sandals £28
And a treat maybe…?!
Jimmy Choo – Malins £659 to £455, Destin £295 to £148
