Often the weekend for me includes building dens, becoming a Lego man in a battle with Ninjago or playing football for as many hours as my little boy can push in the local football pitch. So as payback, he has to be my photographer when we head out for some essential coffee breaks;)
As spring approaches (it may be officially here, but today’s weather does not show spring at all!), we headed to Hillmount Garden Centre to pick up some new additions for the garden (and sneak in that coffee!). This lovely little dress from H&M is the perfect wardrobe staple for this time of year. The fabric is still heavy, but the sleeves are just above the elbow. The perfect balance for spring weather (and I still have two vests underneath!) – with of course the addition of tights rather than bare legs!
Mixing up my outfit with my trusty leather jacket. And (for anyone who follows on Instagram, you may have seen these once or twice before?!) wearing my well worn, very comfortable and sparkling silver Adidas originals. Matching up the metallics with accessories from local designers Gráinne Maher and Lines and Current.
Feeling rejuvenated, and spring garden ready, we layered up headed to Topshop to try on some new trainers..
I love the versatility of this dress. Bought for a mere £20 I have worn it casually as above, added brogues for work, added a shirt underneath to brighten, worn with heels at dinner, worn with a print cardigan for an afternoon with friends, and can see it being worn on many more occasions. Currently thinking of how to make it summer ready with a pair of sandals, maybe add a brooch or two…
What is your go to comfort outfit and how many ways can you wear it?
I have a really strange way of shopping, even I can’t really figure it out. I hate sale shopping, but most things I buy are on the sale. I don’t really ever find things in charity shops, but lots of my clothes are second hand. But what I’m writing about today – Many things I buy in shops I think I’ll never wear and then they become my staple pieces!
So how does that work?! I’ll give you an example. My Topshop skirt. Tried it on (from the sale rail I might add – £55 to £15), took the customary Instagram shot, left it back on the rail, left the shop. Moved to next shop, saw a top that would work perfectly with Topshop skirt, back to buy the skirt. Top did not work perfectly, but many other items from my wardrobe did.
Initial mirror selfie…
Why did I leave it back in the first place? Primarily because of the fabric. It’s made from the polyester that looks and feels like neopreen, which I love, but which is not the most flattering of fabrics. As mentioned before, my biggest area is my hips, so drawing any attention here is not a good thing. But I also felt the length would work best with heels, so I wouldn’t get much wear out of the skirt. Silly thoughts that were quickly removed upon seeing the beautiful top!
Skirt purchased, home to try on, and then attempts to never take off again as it just worked!
Thanks to Ruth from Willow Lane for this photo…
Keeping with the blue tones and worn with grey top with feature pocket by local designer Nor Lisa
My friend who I love to go to Galgorm Spa for the day with for this one…
Worn with a printed tee from Masato Jones
And my six year old who I am training up to be my photographer for this one!
Scenic tarmac shot;) Worn with cropped Tee and neon
And the trusty Converse added when the rain came again!
Moral of this story – you really can make any item the style that works for you. As you browse the new A/W collections, if you love something, buy it, take it home, try it on (broken record here!) and get mixing up your style a bit – you might surprise yourself!
And keep an eye on Instagram for a shot with the heels!
Normally I am really bad at this post and find too many items for my one thing. But tonight, I have had success. This is my One Thing.
I first saw this beautiful skirt after posting the new A/W 13 trends as I searched with the hope of finding something pink that I could wear, and it also happens to match the trend of vinyl. And of course, I love a pencil skirt!
I then spotted Cathy Martin’s outfit at the launch of West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK (post to follow!). Cathy has paired this style of skirt with a handpainted, silk top from local designer, Larissa Watson (find out more here).
Love! And now I’m signing off before I add any more items;)
After a busy week this is a quick post to update you on any new outfits worn and any items bought – the (sort-of) spending ban was worth it! Next course, photography!!
Out for dinner with friends – poured!
First Day – my fashion inspirations
Neon: Trousers – H&M (£7 on sale, bargain!)
Silver Brogues (of course!)
10 photos later, we’re sticking with this one. Night out at Dirty Dancing, lots of people passing!
Leather Jacket – Miss Selfridge
Loving my feather earrings – found during my clearout!
Dress – Only (£16 on sale!)
Loving my Argento origami swallow necklace. Paired with my ‘R’.
Travelling outfit – and the sunglasses;)
These were the other option – did I make the right choice?!
And to the purchases. Anyone who has been following on Facebook or Twitter will know my week in London was pretty busy so shopping time was limited but I still managed to squeeze a little in!
My main aim was to buy ankle boots for autumn/winter. I happened to stumble across a shop called The Sting – although these weren’t the exact style of boots I was looking for, I found these on the sale marked down from £70 to £10. Bargain! My hunt however is still on! I also bought the star jumper (reduced to £10) and the Aztec woollen tee. Will definitely check this store out again, loved it!
Of course I visited the huge Topshop on Oxford Street – I love that they actually have food served instore, a reason to spend all day there;) I bought these silver brogues by Vagabond and the grey and neon tee by yuki, and got student discount! Love the print on this tee and on the little neckscarf (I haven’t yet worked out how to wear these??) from American Apparel.
When in & other stories, I hunted for items on my wishlist, but managed to pick up this woollen jumper instead. Love the casual look and feel – it will be well worn! I also saw a pair of sandals in Coolway reduced to £15 – already organised for summer next year!
And finally, at the airport I managed to do a last minute shop – Mac Make-Up and Prada sunnies – I was deliberating over four pairs, three were practically identical, so I went for the quirky ones – what do you think?
So now I’m off to rest! I’m going to take a bit of a blogging break this week before I get back to the day job but will check in via social media throughout the week. Keep reading and sharing, and I’ll update you on my Styling course next weekend!
