On Trend Bargains

Styling Tip for today…don’t spend too much on on-trend pieces, as often they can be worn this season but do not carry well into another.  Thankfully over recent seasons we have seen many trends stick around, moving smoothly into the next season with an added touch, but ultimately meaning we can re-wear and still keep up with the trends.

Our wardrobe is generally filled with a mixture of basics, workwear, dressy and casual styles, and a selection of pieces that were bought on a whim, fitting in with a seasonal trend, but that we no longer really wear.

My worst shopping habit is that I never plan to buy.  I am that person who buys things on a whim – but as soon as I buy, I integrate the piece into my wardrobe (labels straight off and worn the next day!!).  I am proud to say I have worn everything in my wardrobe at least three times (many pieces have been worn hundreds of times *see my 15 year old shirt on Instagram;) ).  I also do not spend a lot of money on any one piece, I often seem to get lucky with my purchases.

And so to a few on trend pieces introduced to my wardrobe over the last month or so.

First up…my new trainers, bought in the Next Outlet minutes before our movie was about to begin in the Omniplex;)  I eyed up the Stan Smith version when they first came out but I didn’t have a place for them in my wardrobe then, so paying over £70 just wasn’t worth it.  I recently saw them on a pre-loved site I follow for £50 but still couldn’t do it.  They are a velcro close, something I knew I may fall out of love with.  So at £10 (from the Next Outlet), I happily made a brand compromise!

Next, my new trousers.  Wide legged trousers have always been a favourite of mine, even though I spend most of my time now in skinnies.  So whenever they are revived on the catwalks, I happily pick them up.  But these are sports luxe so have to be carefully styled.  These are also from Next and purchased on the sale for £12!

Worn dressy with my Gucci style loafers (bought in Topshop for £7 in the New Year sale).

Or casual with one of my favourite printed t-shirts made by local designer, Gordon Donaldson.

And finally for now, on a wander around Forestside I dandered into Warehouse to have a look at their final sale items (always look out for this sign!).  I noticed this cold shoulder top, the perfect transitional piece as the weather brightens up.  Marked down to £8, an extra 20% off.  A bargain!  You may notice in the photo that the straps are a little long for me (I am quite short between neck and bust) but this didn’t stop the purchase – a quick stitch will easily fix this!

Any bargains you have got lucky with recently?

What better way to brighten a rainy day than a little fashion!

I’ve been adding my work wardrobe pictures recently, but my favourite wardrobe staple is jeans, and I always go back to the skinnies.  So here is how I’ve been wearing them in my recent weekend wardrobe!

My favourite jumper & other stories – wish we had a store in NI!
Top – Warehouse
Scarf – H&M
Boots – TK Maxx

Blouse – Tu, Sainsburys (recent but not online)
Cardigan – Miss Selfridge
Worn with boots as seen here and a few other places!

Jumper – The Sting
Shirt – H&M
Scarf – River Island
Hidden wedge Trainers – Xti Territory

And for those days when you just want to wear a dress!

Dress – River Island
Scarf – Nor Lisa
Shoes – Primark

Get following on Instagram this weekend and I’ll post my outfits, and I’ll aim to get the pictures during the day – clothes with artificial lights just aren’t the same:)

‘I don’t design clothes, I design dreams’ Ralph Lauren

My favourite casual look has to be a printed t-shirt with jeans – relaxed, comfortable and with a bit of quirky style.  Below are a few of my favourites of the moment.

Coral Bird Print Cropped T-shirt – River Island £10 (was £15)
Dreaming Hearts T-shirt – £20.95
Love Moschino Zip Smiley Short Sleeved T-shirt – £65 (was £110)
Hummingbird T-shirt – Warehouse £26

I love the cropped t-shirt in the first picture – a style I wouldn’t normally wear but what a cute print!  You can also get a white standard length t-shirt with the same print, sold in support of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer.  Also love the Moschino t-shirt with sequin, zip and bow detailing – thinking I could do a bit of this myself??

Hearts & Bows Multicoloured Dapto Tie Dye Boyfriend T-shirt – £14.99
Floral Cross Tank – £38
Freedom Vest (white silk) – £50
Blue and White Swallow Print T-shirt – New Look £9.99

I used to love the tie dye look in the 80’s but they do say if you wore it the first time…!   This t-shirt gives a more updated look with the colour splatter.  For any Made in Chelsea fans out there, the Floral Cross Tank has been designed by Oliver Proudlock – there is a great range online but this was my favourite.  This Freedom t-shirt should be in the ‘If I were to buy one thing‘ post.  Zoe Boomer is a Northern Irish designer who creates elegant, modern designs and I only recently realised this top is actually made from silk.  I can just imagine how beautiful it would sit with my favourite skinny jeans, a little pair of sandals  – luxurious and simple!

Vila Studded Sweat Top – ASOS £24.50 (was £35)
Boyfriend shirt in Cosmic Tie Dye Print – ASOS £36
Brogues T-shirt – £17
Number Airtex Tee – Topshop £22

A little off the t-shirt trail with the top two offerings – an embellished jumper is a wardrobe essential and another tie dye, maybe I’m falling in love all over again!  And how could I not add a brogues picture – this is sold as a men’s t-shirt, but with rolled sleeves, a belt or tying at the bottom, it could easily be worn by girls too.  My final offering is in keeping with the current sports luxe trend, again, probably not something I would wear but I like the simplicity of this tee.

So clearly I like a printed tee with all my ‘loves’ – which style do you love??

My Favourite Things – A Pair of Silver Shoes

My real job has been a bit busy recently (no end of term calm down unfortunately!) so my last post (A White T-Shirt), and this post had to be an easy write for me – my favourite wardrobe staples!

And tonight, it’s the silver pump. I love silver. It’s a colour that goes with everything and is most flattering to my skin tone and most of the colours I wear. And doesn’t every girl love sparkles?!

Any regular readers will know I already own my favourite pair..

Next Embellished Ballerinas £26
*also available in black or nude

Of course, my Silver Brogues are also a firm favourite, but they are not always easy to match up with an outfit, especially in summer, as having thick glitter and a black sole, they are a little heavy.

Matalan Brogues – inspiration for silverbrogues!

I also own about 5 other pairs from various shops and in various styles (round toe, pointy toe, sling back, elastic detailing etc.), as seen in previous outfit posts.

For the wear my silver shoes get, I’m definitely in need of a new pair. So here are the choices…

Zara Patent Blucher £49.99
Dune Lustrous £79
Sam Edelman Jerome
Thanks Joanna for your brogue tips!

Carvela Linden @ Kurt Geiger £85 to £29

Aldo Bozena Metal Toe £45

Dune Metallic Pointed Toe cap Ballerina £21

Mel by Melissa Silver Cut Out Mango Pumps – New Look £28.99

Warehouse Martina Jewelled Sandals £28

And a treat maybe…?!

Jimmy Choo – Malins £659 to £455, Destin £295 to £148

Back to you – have you seen any nice silver shoes recently – links required!

My Favourite Things – A White T-Shirt

I have a really bad habit which I have mentioned before – I buy a new item of clothing and suddenly this is the only thing I want to wear, so I have attempted to mix it up as best as possible, creating a few different looks.  I am a lover of the white t-shirt – it’s so versatile and can be worn dressy or casual – a favourite quality of mine when I’m purchasing a new item of clothing.

Showcasing the white t-shirt as worn in the last few days…

Denim shirt – H&M
White Vest – M&S
Midi Pencil Skirt – Matalan
Necklaces – purchased from a stall at The Fashion Souk
Shoes – Lee Cooper

Cardigan – Warehouse
White T-shirt – Warehouse £12
Boyfriend Jeans – River Island
Sandals – Aldo
Necklaces as above

A little selection of the shapes and styles I love!  All currently online to buy…

And a few different ways to wear…

Zara Trousers £29.99
New Look Jacket £34.99
Statement Necklace – School Gate Style shop

What’s your current favourite wardrobe piece at the moment or are you good at wearing it all?
